Overview

The experiential learning assessment (ELA) is for experienced engineers who are Graduate, Technician or Incorporated Members of ICE, who have either:

  • an accredited foundation degree, an accredited HND, an accredited HNC, or a qualification that has been assessed to be equivalent to one of these and who want to become an Incorporated Civil Engineer (IEng MICE),
  • or an accredited Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and who want to become a Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng MICE).

Using the Experiential Learning Route could bridge the academic gap. Successful ELA applicants will be able to go on to complete their Initial Professional Development at IEng or CEng level and then apply for professional review.

This workshop will help you to understand the requirements of the Route and how you can identify, describe and discuss the theory you have learnt and applied through your work experience.

This session will discuss learning outcomes; help you identify the science, maths and design practice that underpins your work, and explore how you can convey this in your written submission. The workshop will be interactive and discussion based.

To help you get the most out of it, you should have to hand:

  • Your current CV
  • Examples of your work you would like to use for your application
  • The current version of any development reports or draft documents you are working on
  • Experiential Learning Guidance document either for IEng or CEng

The session aims to give you an understanding of the process requirements and initial guidance to be able to pull together the required application documents for the Experiential Learning assessment.
