Fast-track EngTech Workshop for Technicians in Academia

Overview

Do you have a technician role supporting Civil Engineering staff and students in academia?

Does your role include some of the following?

• Running laboratories including setting up of experimental and/or IT equipment?
• Supervising students in the use of laboratory equipment?
• Supporting research staff and students with their research?
• Maintaining existing equipment and sourcing new equipment and materials?
• Assisting in the running of field courses and field activities?
• Responsibility for Health & Safety
• Supervising the work of other technicians?

Are you interested in becoming professionally qualified as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) and a full member (MICE) of the Institution of Civil Engineers?

Have you:

• a level 3 qualification (BTEC or NVQ) or higher qualification or sufficient experience to compensate for a lack of formal qualification
• relevant experience gained in either academia or in industry or a combination of both to enable you to demonstrate all the ICE Attributes?
• the interest and commitment to put in some hard work?

Then join Ray Hulse CEng FICE and Jane Bullivant CEng MICE in this workshop intended for you to:

• get your EngTech application ready to submit by 26th August
• and prepare for your friendly online assessment interview in November 2022

The workshop will consist of one three-hour session where we will talk you through the straightforward application form and other documents you need to prepare. There will be subsequent opportunity to have a 1-2-1 session with either Ray or Jane to discuss your submission once you have drafted it.

If there is sufficient interest, we will run a further session giving you the opportunity to practise the short presentation that you will give on the day of your interview.
