About this event

On 21st August 2015 DONG Energy acquired SMartWind Limited and the rights to develop the Hornsea Zone from Mainstream Renewable Power and Siemens Financial Services. This includes the project rights to Hornsea Projects Two and Three which have the potential for at least 3 GW (GW) of offshore wind capacity.

This follows the announcement in February 2015 that DONG Energy had taken full ownership of the 1.2 GW Hornsea Project One for which it has secured Final Investment Decision enabling contracts. This followed years of development alongside SMart Wind.

DONG Energy is the market leader in offshore wind. We have more than 30 years' experience in wind power and more than 20 years' experience in developing, building and running wind farms.

While the majority of our wind power capacity was originally located in Denmark, an increasing amount is derived from offshore wind farms in the United Kingdom. New farms are also under development.

DONG Energy has been investing in the UK since 2004 and have committed investments of over £5 billion to the UK - of which £4 billion is in offshore wind, helping develop the secure, low carbon energy supplies the UK needs.

We have set ourselves the target of reducing the cost of offshore wind by 35 - 40% by 2020.
