Dr Peter Hansford FREng – Past President and Fellow of ICE will give a presentation addressing the transformation of the UK's construction and infrastructure industry, from the Latham Report through to the present day and into the future.

It will consider the steps we need to take to remain competitive on a global stage and how these will help us to attract the next generation into civil engineering and other professions in the Built Environment.

Peter Hansford was Chief Construction Adviser to the UK Government for three years, from December 2012 to November 2015.

Peter graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering from The University of Nottingham in 1975 and an MBA from Cranfield University in 1986. He was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa by The University of Nottingham in July 2014.

Peter has 40 years' experience in major infrastructure projects, in the UK and overseas. He has worked on highways, railways and energy projects in the UK, on new town infrastructure in Hong Kong and has advised on infrastructure developments and capital investment programmes for numerous clients.

Peter is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a Fellow of the Association for Project Management. He served as the 146th President of the Institution of Civil Engineers from November 2010 to November 2011. He is a Visiting Professor in the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management at University College London and Chairman of the charity, Engineers Without Borders UK.
