The UK’s built environment sector is being challenged to make huge improvements in its performance, in terms of the speed of project delivery, out-turn cost and its carbon footprint. Artificial intelligence (AI) - the ability of machines to learn and think for themselves – could make a huge contribution to delivering these improvements.
Computer systems that can analyse large volumes of data to highlight patterns in the performance and use of existing infrastructure assets will enable better decisions to be made on the type of infrastructure that is required in the future and how it can best be delivered.
AI will likely reduce the number of incremental steps that are required to take infrastructure designs through to operation. This will translate to time and money saved in manufacturing construction products and in building and maintaining our infrastructure networks.
