About this event

Communications Competition has been hosted in the UK as one of the signature events for young ICE members for years. It aims at nurturing the young members by developing their skills and techniques for public consultation and preparing them to excel in this increasingly demanding society.

Your participation as audience is strongly encouraged to simulate the real-life public engagement exercise more realistically. In the meantime, you will be able to comprehend the challenges faced by engineers when undertaking projects, and appreciate the approaches to communicate with the stakeholders effectively.

Six teams are selected to the final of the competition for an interactive mock public consultation meeting. Each team will be given 30 minutes to present their development plan to the general public and stakeholders. The main aim is to engage the public to seek their support towards the development while facilitating the project implementation.

The judging panel, with professionals from various disciplines, will play roles as different stakeholders. Audience will be able to observe the interaction between the teams and the judges, thereby gaining insight into considerations from the perspective of different professions towards the same project.

Moreover, audience can participate in the competition as general public to raise questions to the teams. At the end of the session, the quality of dialogue with judges and audience will be evaluated. Audience will be able to learn from the feedback from the judges and advance their communication skills for future project implementation. Take this opportunity to engage in a mock public consultation meeting and support your friends.

Judging Panel:

  • Mr Eric Ma, JP, Under Secretary for Development, HKSAR Government
  • Mr Raymond Lee, JP, Director of Planning, HKSAR Government
  • Dr Christopher To, Adjunct Professor, City University of Hong Kong
