The demand for BIM technology in major infrastructure projects is continually increasing in recent years. It enhances the design, construction, project management, asset management and improves the overall productivity of the construction industry. Consultants and contractors will be required to use this modelling technology when undertaking design of major government capital works projects from 2018 onwards.
ICE HKA G&S is honoured to have Ms Can Leung, BIM Associate Director of AECOM Innovative Solutions Department, to present the technical considerations and applications of BIM in the Hong Kong International Airport's Three Runway System (3RS) projects.
Ms Can Leung has over 30 years' experience in Innovation Solutions (IS), CAD, multimedia and BIM. She was responsible for information system development, computer network services and security management since year 1987. Being the head of the IS Team of Hong Kong and Mainland China, she was also responsible for providing engineering software solutions, system maintenance and trouble-shooting for the company-wide computer network. She possessed experience in planning, budgeting, implementation, maintenance and training. She also led a 3D multimedia team for the delivery of visual impact assessments and public consultation materials. In year 2009, she got an assignment to set up a Building Information Modelling ("BIM") team to develop BIM applications.
Currently, she is the BIM Associate Director of AECOM Innovative Solutions Department. Her duties including but not limited to providing BIM related implementation strategy consultancy and project management. Her experience covers wide range of developments and integration of BIM in different aspects covering 3D spatial review, 4D construction sequence, quantities take-off, asset management, etc. She has been involved in BIM works for numbers of public infrastructure projects and private developments which facilitated her to be capable of managing the BIM consultancy services for Hong Kong International Airport's Three Runway System (3RS) Projects, Drainage Services Department and Development Bureau.
In the urban drainage construction sequencing in Kai Tak Nullah project, the adoption of BIM technology contributed to winning the Hong Kong Autodesk 2010 BIM Award, i.e. the first time that a civil infrastructure work in Hong Kong to win the Award. Further, the BIM solutions adopted in Shek Wu Hui Sewage Treatment Work in year 2016 also won Hong Kong Autodesk BIM award. In the same year, the BIM solutions used for Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel project won the building Smart Hong Kong International BIM Award.
