BIM, or Building Information Modelling and Data Management in the nuclear industry has moved significantly to align with the government initiative of a 'Digital Built Britain' through the creation of a 'Digital Community' embracing Engineering, Construction and Operations, promising greater efficiencies and leaner operations throughout the life of an asset encompassing the design, construction, testing and commissioning on to its operational life and eventual decommission.
Very much dependent on strong project initiation and the alignment of business case, a common data environment and an integrated PMO it is being championed by government and industry alike as having the backbone to support all future construction projects. It has moved, in a few short years, from the margins into the mainstream of the UK construction industry.

Philip has been a Corporate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers since 1979. His early career in the Nuclear Sector involved being a student at the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority in 1975, a Graduate in 1978, moving to British Nuclear Fuels Ltd as a Senior Manager in 1983 and a secondment to UK Nirex in 1989 as a Project Manager. He was part of the leadership team that won the NCE - Daily Telegraph Project of the Year Award in 1989 for the Magnox Encapsulation Plant at Sellafield.
Philip is currently Chair of ICE Manchester, is a former Board Member and now Honorary Member of the Major Projects Association and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship and Lifetime Membership by the Association for Project Management. He is currently a member of ICE Northern Powerhouse Infrastructure Committee and Chairs the Nuclear Institute Digital Community Special Interest Group.
