About this event

The talk will provide a summary of construction challenges at the redevelopment of Birmingham New Street Station, particularly the required temporary works solutions essential for the successful project completion.

The risks and opportunities available for some critical schemes, designed by RNP Associates, will be discussed with the aim to illustrate the positive impact of innovative engineering, 'safety by design' mentality and the teamwork attitude of all involved parties. This talk should be of benefit to all engineers interested in temporary works design and construction engineering.

Abouzat Jahanshahi

Abouzar Jahanshahi is a Chartered Civil Engineer, specialised in temporary works design, with particular interest in value engineering and alternative construction methodologies. He has eight years of site, design & design management experience dealing with all types of temporary works associated with rail, civil, geotechnical and building construction projects.

Colin Harwood

Colin has spent nearly 10 years working on projects in the railway environment since graduating from The University of Manchester. Colin has worked as a designer & site engineer for bridge projects, he then accepted the opportunity to take on the role of Temporary Works Coordinator at Birmingham New Street.

Following the successful completion of Grand Central, Colin relocated to the North of England in order to take up the position of Designated Project Engineer for Network Rail in the North West.
