Richard Fish gave the keynote address on this subject at the 2019 Bridges Conference and has since undertaken further research into bridge collapses.

His talk will cover the following issues:

  • Causes of collapses this century
  • Historic collapses and how they have improved our understanding
  • Investigation examples – good and bad
  • International comparisons
  • Safeguards against preventing collapses – theory and practice
  • Reality check – capacity, capability and competence.

This is an opportunity not to be missed, especially for those local to the Isle of Wight.
