Brighton sewers tour, Brighton

About this event

Join us for a tour which will take you through 366 metres of the 48km of Brighton's sewers. After a short introductory talk and film, the famous Brighton Sewers Tour begins. Starting at the Brighton Pier, the tour takes you along narrow, whitewashed corridors and up and down metal ladders to see the route of the day's waste and stormwater, which flows to a treatment plant to the east of the city before being pumped safely out to sea. You will also learn about the history, current and future improvement schemes to bring cleaner seas to Sussex.

There is a charge of £12 to attend the tour and places must be booked and paid for in advance online.

The tour is limited to 24 places. For any queries please contact Krish Mistry: krishan.mistry@southernwater.co.uk.

Please note this tour is not recommended for the elderly/infirm as the sewers can be slippery and require climbing up a number of steps as well as a 15ft vertical ladder. Also the confined/dark conditions could induce claustrophobic distress for some visitors.

Suitable clothing is required – long sleeved tops and trousers/jeans should be worn. Open or high heeled shoes are not permitted. Helmets and gloves will be provided. Please be sure to read the "all you need to know" page on the Southern Water website as it contains important information that should be read before attending the tour: www.southernwater.co.uk/all-you-need-to-know

There is no parking available on site; the closest public car par is The Lanes Car Park on Black Lion Street (BN1 1ND) which is a 5 minute walk away (charges apply). There are several alternative car parks and on-street parking bays available within a short walk.
