In the mid-1990s the timber scenic railway suffered a devastating fire which resulted in the closure of Dreamland amusement park. Originally constructed in the 1930s, the scenic railway was the main attraction drawing in coach parties from all over the Country.
As part of a regeneration scheme funded by Thanet District Council, Dreamland has now been brought up to current standards and is attracting visitors once again. Topbond Plc where appointed the main contractor to undertake the reconstruction of the main attraction, the timber scenic railway.
The presentation will touch on the history of Dreamland, the ride structure, fire, planning restrictions, design analysis, foundations, construction details, assembly, timber selection, protective treatment, drive mechanism and commissioning of the ride structure.
