Capturing the Sun: Engineering, agriculture & sustainability, Adelaide

About this event

In 2014 Sundrop began construction of a 20 ha hydroponic farming facility located at Port Augusta. After 18 months and a spend of over $200m, it officially opened in October 2016. The facility is a world first in integrating several sustainable food production technologies at a commercial scale, including solar thermal energy, thermal desalination and seawater cooling.

Matthew Vorrasi, Associate Director, Sundrop and Shane Wigley, Principal Mechanical Engineer, KBR, will provide an overview of the project and the facilities utilisation of a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technology system that integrates solar power, electricity generation, fresh water production, climate control and hydroponics to enable the year-round production of premium produce.
