About this event

Designing and constructing a new 500m long viaduct for Highways England across the Chelmer flood plain is not without its challenges.

This talk dips into the history of the scheme to replace the original 1930's structure, explains the constraints and thoughts behind the design and scheme preparation, and provides insight into how some of the construction issues influenced the design.

Speaker

Philip Welborn, Associate, Bridges, AECOM. With over 30 years industry experience, Philip has been the design manager for detailed design of this scheme since 2010.

Prior to that in about 1999 he was active on the scheme with Highways England (PTS) in the days when Maunsell were HE's consultant.
