The walk will start at the train station, taking in the outskirts of the village of Ryarsh before heading to a Neolithic burial site (Long Barrow) on the outskirts of Trottiscliffe (pronounced Trosley) at the foot of the North Downs. If the day is clear the views are stunning.
Lunch break: The George Inn in the village of Trottiscliffe (1 hour). We need to be prompt to ensure those who want to finish the walk by 4.00 pm are back in West Malling in good time.
We head back through Addington and Offham before completing the walk in the market town of West Malling. There may be opportunity to explore this delightful little market town before catching the train. Trains are frequent from West Malling to both Ashford and London.
Distance approximately 5 miles before lunch and 4 miles in the afternoon (likely to be 4 hours walking not including the break).
The going is not hard there is one sharp ascent and a few stiles. It is possible we will encounter muddy conditions so appropriate footwear is advised. It would be helpful, but not essential, to know if you want to come on this walk.
