Clocaenog Forest Onshore Wind Farm site visit, Ruthin

About this event

The wind farm development site covers an area of approximately 1,600ha and is set within part of the Clocaenog forest, south west of Denbigh and to the east of Brenig reservoir. The wind farm consists of twenty seven 3.6 MW Vestas Wind Turbines, each with a tip height of 145m

The Balance of plant Civils & Electrical works are being undertaken by Jones Bros Civil Engineering on behalf of the wind farm developer Innogy Renewables.

The site visit will consist of

  • A presentation by Jones Bros Contracts Director Eryl Roberts explaining the key challenges of the Clocaenog Forest wind farm project, and how they have been overcome.

Following the presentation, a bus tour of the Northern part of the wind farm site with stops at the following areas:

  • On site 132Kv/33Kv Substation & Control Building
  • On site concrete production area
  • Turbine 10 – Piled Foundation (Pre concrete)
  • Turbine 13 – Post Concreting operations
  • Borrow Pit A – Materials processing area
  • Underground 33Kv & Fibreoptic cabling works.
  • A visit to the neighbouring Brenig Wind Farm, nearing completion with turbines assembled.

Visitors will assemble at Jones Bros office for minibus transport to the site. Please book early as places on the bus are limited.

Light refreshments will be served before the presentation, which will start at 3.00pm and end at approx. 4.30pm

Hard hats & high vis. clothing will be provided. Please bring your own sturdy boots for the site visit.

Eryl Roberts

Eryl Roberts

Eryl started his career with Jones Bros in 2000 whilst at college studying towards a Higher National Certificate in Building Studies gaining industry experience.

He has been involved in a range of Civil Engineering projects including Highways, wind farms and landfills. He joined Jones Bros as an engineer / surveyor progressing to Site Agent up to Contracts Manager. Eryl is part of an integrated team in Wales developing the experience and knowledge of other engineers within the company.

Eryl has experience and knowledge of constructing over 10 wind farm projects all over the UK, over the last 17 years.

He has recently completed the £42m Pen Y Cymoedd wind farm in South Wales which involved working in an environmentally sensitive area, on all projects Eryl is involved in he assists designers in finding practical solutions to site problems. He will use this experience in the delivery of a cost-effective scheme and has a track record of successfully delivering projects on time and to budget.
