Communication skills are just as important for engineers as their technical ability. This Masterclass will give real case studies practical examples and techniques to help your projects succeed.

Speakers include Chris Waite who will share learning from the Forth Road Bridge closure and the value of, particularly, social media. ICE's Director of Engineering Knowledge Nathan Baker will talk about delivering innovation through learning. Marketing and business development specialist Keith Fisken from South East Scotland Regional Transport Partnership will also input. The event will illustrate the power of using an effective and appropriate media mix and good communication in achieving the crucial imperative of engaging your target audience on strategic messages.

Event includes morning refreshments and a two-course lunch.

Nathan Baker, Director of Engineering Knowledge, Institution of Civil Engineers.

Nathan's career started in the British Army where he spent time designing, developing and delivering learning solutions as part of a Tri-Service unit, acting as a specialist instructor at the NATO School in Oberamergau, Germany, before being deployed to Afghanistan to transition Information Operations to the Canadian led Multi-National Brigade.

He has wide experience of delivering innovation through learning and since leaving the Army has worked the Babcock International Group and was the Strategy and Development Director for the Sector Skills Council for the energy and utilities sectors.

Chris Waite, Media & Communications Manager, Amey – Forth Bridges Unit.

Chris is in charge of communications for Transport Scotland's Forth Bridges Unit - sets strategy and determines messages for the Forth Road Bridge. Amongst the varied media platforms Chris uses, he manages the Forth Road Bridge website, Twitter and Facebook channels. Managed crisis communications following closure of Forth Road Bridge in December 2015.

Keith Fisken, Business Partner, South East Scotland Regional Transport Partnership.

Keith is a passionate, creative marketing and business development manager. He has a strong experience and skills in brand management, strategic planning, customer relationship management, agency relationships, consumer marketing, sales, and business development supported by excellent knowledge. He has a proven track record of achievements in the global wine market encompassing both B2B (Business to Business) & B2C (Business to Consumer).
