Crossrail is the £14.8bn proposed new high frequency railway for London and the south East which, from 2018, will link Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east via new twin tunnels under central London. There will be eight new stations on the tunnelled section of the new route which will have connections to the existing underground stations and surface services.

WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff has completed the outline and detailed design of the £400m Bond Street Station.

The station comprises two 260m long combined platform/concourse tunnels extending between two new ticket halls at Davies Street and Hanover Square. The ticket halls are formed from boxes up to 35m below ground level using large diaphragm walling and secant piled walls and very large bearing piles. A passenger interchange link will also be provided to connect the Western Ticket Hall with the existing LU Bond Street Station providing interchange with the Jubilee and Central Lines.

The construction of the station is a complex phased operation in the heart of London, and its method and sequence of construction has been an integral part of the design process. It included accommodating frequent design changes to enhance the overall construction programme, ongoing planning applications and also developing plans to minimise the disruption and noise of the construction activities.

The design is to ensure that the station operates safely, smoothly, reliably, efficiently and sustainably, and it balances the need for the station to integrate within the high class surroundings of Mayfair whilst being buildable within the agreed construction budget.
