Delivering natural flood management, Redhill

About this event

Natural Flood Management is increasingly being used to reduce flood risk where hard engineering is deemed not a viable solution. Across the country the Environment Agency has been allocated money to deliver a number of trail schemes to investigate the benefits and challenges in delivering these soft engineered interventions.

John Hollis, the Environment Agency’s Natural Flood Management Programme Manager, will give an overview of what NFM is, and how it sits on a spectrum of measures. John will talk about the nationwide £15m programme, how it’s being delivered, the challenges faced and then how the Environment Agency plan to review and implement lessons learnt.

In addition Ben Tonkin, EA FCRM Officer and PHD Student, will present a local case study on Natural Flood Management in the South East of England – “The Dorking NFM scheme” - monitoring and evaluation of NFM intervention methods to inform practice.
