About this event

The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) plays a key role in supporting the armed forces as they prepare for operations by providing and maintaining infrastructure, that meets the military needs cost effectively. As part of this role, DIO implemented the Next Generation Estate Contract (NGEC) and in 2014 Carillion Amey was chosen to deliver the Regional Prime contracts in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

RAF Marham operates the 3 leading GR4 Tornado Squadrons and is going through a myriad of change and is now in year 3 of the NGEC with the additional implementation of the new F35B. The F-35B Lightning II will place the UK at the forefront of fighter technology, giving the RAF a true multi-role all weather, day and night capability, able to operate from well-established land bases, deployed locations or on the new in service Aircraft Carrier.

Maj Simon Oxley MBE joined the army in 1986 and spent a number of years as a Plant Operator Mechanic. Completing the Military Plant Foreman course in 1999 and carrying out a number of tours worldwide, engaged in a myriad of road and construction projects.

In 2009 Maj Oxley took up post as a Garrison Engineer and was awarded an MBE in 2011 for his work on the development of the road upgrade programme for Helmand Province in Afghanistan bringing together coalition forces to follow a common goal. Since 2009 Maj Oxley has been the Delivery Manager in the British Forces South Atlantic Islands overseeing the delivery of project and programmed works as part of the ISP contract for DIO, following this taking up post in Brunei as the Senior Estate Facility Manager ensuring the delivery of all funded works, utilising Brunei contractors only on a DIO site. Maj Oxley is now the SEFM at RAF Marham working in collaboration with the customer and Carillion Amey.
