Robert Ibell (Ex-Chairman, London Bridge Associates)
Kevin McManus (Construction Manager, London Bridge Associates)

Robert Ibell

Bob Ibell

Bob has over 45 years’ experience in the construction industry during which time he has held senior management positions on an extensive range of projects (incl. Jubilee Line Extension and CTRL) that have varied significantly in nature. He has worked predominately for contractors and principally on tunnelling projects and has a wealth of experience in the management of all types of tunnelling operations.

During his career, he has gained extensive knowledge of construction contracts and has been involved in innovative procurement strategies that deliver win-win results for all parties. Bob always tries to bring something new to a situation that usually involves a new approach or a different way of managing an issue to deliver better value to all. With an absorbing interest in issues such as risk, relationship building, health and safety cultures, competence training and development, he brings a diversity of skills and knowledge to all clients.

Now retired, Bob has also served as the Chairman of British Tunnelling Society in the past and lectures at the University of Warwick Msc in Tunnelling an Underground Space. Recently, he delivered BTS’ prestigious Harding Memorial Lecture titled ‘Collaboration, Communication and Competence in Tunnelling Industry’.

Kevin McManus

Kevin McManus

Kevin has around 30 years’ experience of managing and leading the successful development, procurement and delivery of major infrastructure underground capital works. This extends across senior roles for Clients, Consulting Engineers and Contractors; gaining a thorough understanding of the engineering, construction, risk management and technical requirements.

Kevin has built upon his substantial experience in design co-ordination and the construction of these works to develop a talent in constructability and programming. His experience and aptitude in risk management has industry recognition and he is the BTS Champion for Construction Management on Warwick University MSc in Tunnelling and Underground Space.

He is a perceptive individual who thrives on any challenges that he encounters. At the BTS 2014 annual debate he successfully opposed the motion “This house believes that Regulation and Compliance culture is stifling Innovation and Creativity within the tunnelling industry.”
