Merseyrail has been an excellent example of how devolved political control can deliver tangible benefits to public services. The network regularly tops the national passenger satisfaction rankings but has the country’s oldest fleet of rolling stock. Merseytravel is leading the replacement of this fleet and a suite of associated infrastructure interventions.
Speaker: David Powell, Programme Director Rolling Stock, from Merseytravel.
Complimentary buffet and tea/coffee will be served from 6pm, with the presentation to start at 6:30pm.
This is a joint event between ICE Merseyside branch and ICE North West Transportation Engineering Group.

David is a Mechanical Engineer with thirty years of experience in the public transportation industry. His career started with GEC (now Alstom) working as a designer for the original Eurostar fleet before moving to France as a project manager. He subsequently worked at AEG and Westinghouse Brakes before joining Bombardier as a Project Director, where he led the construction of the first line of the Nottingham Express Tramway.
During eight years of self-employment, he procured Edinburgh’s trams and the expansion of Manchester Metrolink’s infrastructure as well as introducing the new fleet of trams. David joined Merseytravel six years ago to lead the project to replace the Merseyrail fleet and upgrade the railway’s infrastructure.
