There is an industry wide need for railway drainage to be better understood. Drainage Theatre will be available for use by Network Rail, under RIDC governance, to its suppliers, designers and contractors as well as university research teams to inform the design of railway drainage systems.
An appropriate section of railway has been selected in Tuxford. This chosen section of railway provides a variety of rail infrastructure; embankments, cuttings single and double track, cross track drains, culverts, over bridge, etc. The Drainage Theatre shall demonstrate the interaction between them for research purposes. The natural surface features and other characteristics of the site such as catchment, geomorphometry & geology provides the fundamental basis of the design requirement and limitations.
The presenter will describe the background to the project and the key engineering challenges/ risks and limitations to the Drainage Theatre to be addressed in delivery of Phase 1 of the project.
