About this event

We look forward to welcoming you to our Cheltenham & Gloucester City Club meeting. The Council Chamber is accessed from the rear of the main Shire Hall building, off the Councillors Car Park in Bearland. Go up the steps to the double doors. These will be open from 6pm.

Sean Gibbs from Hanscomb Intercontinental Ltd will be discussing dispute resolution types in the standard forms of contract and the move in the United Kingdom and internationally to avoid conflict altogether by the use of dispute avoidance.

He will discuss adjudication, arbitration and litigation and its take up in the United Kingdom and popularity over the last 20 years. He will then look at the dispute process in the FIDIC forms of contract and how they have evolved to the promotion of dispute avoidance.

In closing Sean will highlight the conflict avoidance pledge.

Sean has held directorships and senior commercial positions with contracting and consultancy firms in the United Kingdom and Internationally. With over 30 years’ experience in the onshore and offshore construction and engineering industries Sean has worked across the several continents and his project experience includes major airport developments, industrial process plants, military and police installations, heavy engineering in respect of onshore and offshore oil & gas facilities and pipelines.

Projects have been based on numerous standard and be-spoke Conditions of Contract, including the NEC/ECC Suite of Contracts, JCT Suite of Contracts, ICE Suite of Contract, FIDIC Suite of Contracts, IChemE Suite of Contracts, ICC Suite of contracts and other EPC / Split EPC / EPIC / FEED / EPCM /LSTK forms.

Sean is member of the Institution of Civil Engineers and is actively involved with other construction law institutes and organizations. Sean also sits as an arbitrator, dispute board member, expert determiner and adjudicator and through this experience better understands what the tribunal expects from those giving evidence.
