Dover sea wall, London

About this event

On 24 December 2015 rapid lower of the beach levels caused the Sea Wall at Dover failed resulting in the closure of the Folkestone to Dover Railway Line.

Mobilising over the Christmas and New Year Period the 2015-2016 Costain, Network Rails South East Multifunctional Framework Contractor, worked 24 hours a day 7 days a week to stabilise the wall.

Over the following 9 months Contractor Costain, Designer Tony Gee and Partners, and Client Network Rail worked in an innovative collaborative structure, streamlining the design and assurance process to minimise the programme for delivery.

The railway implemented solution, with a design life of 125 years, re-opened ahead of programme and under budget.

This presentation will give an overview of the project and an insight into the lessons that can be learnt from this 'new way of working'.
