About this event

ElecLink is a new project to design, install and operate an HVDC 1000MW electricity interconnector between France and Great Britain via the Channel Tunnel. It is one of Europe's Projects of Common Interest contributing to the integration of energy markets and enabling the diversification of energy sources.

To facilitate the construction of the UK converter station of the Eleclink project, a 10,000m2 cut/ fill platform has been constructed at the toe of the Echinghill Escarpment at the Folkestone Terminal of the Eurotunnel. The platform has been constructed at the toe of the East Cheriton landslide. Multiple large diameter reinforced concrete piles have been constructed to prevent the landslide impacting the converter station platform and the Eurotunnel tracks.

Our speaker, Mike Haliburton from Arcadis, a Project Principal Geotechnical Engineer, will provide a summary of the geological context of the site, a discussion on the geotechnical analysis for the stabilisation solution and a review of the monitoring results thus far.

Note that the main car park on the campus is free after 17.00. See attached campus map.
