About this event

Originally called the Elmbridge Transport Scheme, the scheme entered the Department for Transport's (DfT) funding pool as a Park and Ride and Roundabout Improvement Scheme. In late 2014 it was decided to split the scheme into 2 phases. Phase 1 – the roundabout improvement scheme is currently on site and phase 2 – the park and ride remains in Gloucestershire County Council's (GCC) emerging Local Transport Plan.

Elmbridge Court Roundabout is a very busy roundabout and a major access route into the centre of Gloucester off the M5, it is in need of improvement to improve capacity and to reduce congestion. The scheme will provide additional lanes on all approaches to the roundabout, 24 hour traffic signals of all arms except two (Cheltenham Road East and Elmbridge Court egress) and the construction of a "straight on" two lane one way link through the roundabout from the westbound carriageway of the A40 Golden Valley Bypass to the A40 Gloucester Northern Bypass known as a "hamburger lane".

The lecture will cover:

  • Scheme scope
  • Planning permission
  • DfT funding
  • Detailed design
  • Procurement and contractor appointment
  • Site activities so far
