Pritzker Prize winner Jean Nouvel, was commissioned to design the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi. The design features a 180 m wide, 24 m high dome composed of a steel structure with a double layer of cladding material with perforated openings of varying sizes and shapes. The project was constructed immediately adjacent the sea, with the depth of excavation up to 11m below sea level.
