This presentation will describe the evolution and construction of a technically challenging bridge project, built within the heart of an established residential community on the Manor Estate in Hertfordshire. An outline background history and reasons for the project, including the main challenges and constraints that had to be managed will lead to an explanation of the evolution of the design through selecting solutions best suited to the environment and specific needs of the location.
The implementation of selected designs, phasing and solutions will be demonstrated by a sequence of photographs, videos and drawings, illustrating how multiple interfaces of temporary and permanent works were managed within very confined working limits.
The presenters will discuss the lessons learned throughout the project, including innovations and what went right and what had the potential to go wrong.
Finally, the importance of developing excellent levels of collaboration between the major stakeholders will be explained and how community involvement is critical to the success of a project such as Featherbed Lane Bridge.
