Gauging historic infrastructure for the 21st century, Birmingham

About this event

We at the RCEA-Midlands are thrilled to welcome Bridget Eickhoff from the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) to this evening's event to explore with us the challenges associated with gauging our infrastructure in 2018 and beyond.

Our infrastructure is amongst the oldest in the world, and due to its unique heritage suffers a plethora of challenges with loading gauges. How we optimise the use of railway space is critical to the success of existing railways and planned infrastructure projects, and Bridget will explain how this critical work is being undertaken.

We will explore how civil engineering assets such as bridges, tunnels and platforms are assured and modified to keep our infrastructure safe and will be investigating the challenges associated with running HS2 'Classic Compatible' rolling stock. Finally, through exploring how the practices engaged in this country differ to those overseas, we will benefit from an international perspective to the evening's lecture.
