About this event

Competitors need to use their inter-personal skills as they present a civil engineering project at a mock public consultation meeting. They will need to persuade the judges and the audience and face questions about how their proposal will affect the local community.

  • Winning teams at the regional rounds get a £250 prize.
  • Places in the West Midlands regional competition are limited so early application is essential.
  • Teams should be of 3-5 student or graduate ICE members with up to 7 years' industry experience each.

The competition is divided into three stages: regional, semi-final and a national final held at One Great George Street in London on Wednesday 21 September 2016. The winning team will be expected to compete in the Semi-finals, and if successful again, the National Final.

Teams need to choose 1 out of 5 scenarios provided and then:

  • Produce a public information leaflet;
  • Prepare a consultation strategy document;
  • Make a 20 minute presentation.
