Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel (TKOLTT) will be the second tunnel connecting Tseung Kwan O and East Kowloon in addition to the existing Tseung Kwan O Tunnel. TKOLTT will mitigate the congestion of Tseung Kwan O Tunnel which will be further saturated with the future traffic demand arising from the proposed housing developments in East Kowloon district.
TKOLTT will form Route 6 in the strategic road network together with the Trunk Road T2 in Kai Tak Development and Central Kowloon Route. Currently, the connection between Kowloon East and West depends on Route 7, Route 5 and Prince Edward Road which are heavily demanded during peak hours. Route 6 will provide an express connection between Tseung Kwan O and Kowloon West and resolve the congestion problem in central and eastern Kowloon.
Being the main contract of the TKOLTT, the works comprise the construction of a 2.2 km dual two-lane main tunnel connecting Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O with a branch tunnel connecting the main tunnel from Tseung Kwan O to Eastern Harbour Crossing. The works also include the construction of Lam Tin Interchange, site formation and associated highways construction.
In this site visit, representatives from CEDD will introduce the project information including the background and design feature of TKOLTT. They will also share with the participants the construction challenges and environmental issues encountered. Participants will be able to visit main tunnel construction site and learn the construction sequence of a tunnel and associated highways.
