About this event

Highways England is improving the M5 by making it a smart motorway between junctions 4a and 6.

The works are taking place on the M5 between Bromsgrove and Worcester. It is a busy section of motorway carrying traffic into Birmingham.

Works will commence on the network with enabling works in August 2015 followed by the main works starting early January 2016.

Smart motorways help relieve congestion by converting the hard shoulder to a running lane and using technology to monitor traffic flow and vary the mandatory speed limits to keep traffic moving smoothly.
