HKA Breakfast Forum on “Know your risks: Professional liability issues for engineers”, Hong Kong

About this event

This one-hour presentation aims to provide an overview of the common legal issues that confront engineers.

Topics include:

  • contractual and tortious duties imposed on consultant / design engineers
  • recent case law development on the "fitness for purpose" obligation and "the duty to warn", including a review of the latest UK Supreme Court decision in MT Højgaard A/S v E.ON Climate & Renewables UK Robin Rigg East Limited and another [2017] UKSC 59
  • potential liability of Registered Structural Engineers (RSEs) and Registered Geotechnical Engineers (RGEs) under the Buildings Ordinance, including the practical matters to bear in mind in the event of a prosecution by the Buildings Department.
