Heerema Marine Contractors is building the world's largest heavy-lift and deepwater construction vessel. The Sleipnir has been designed in response to requirements for installation of larger platforms, new types of seabed processing equipment, and removal of heavier topsides and jackets from decommissioned fields.
Sleipnir, will be 220 m long with an overall beam of 102 m and a normal service speed of 10 knots. Its two main cranes, under construction by Huisman in China will each be equipped with 10,000-metric ton lifting capacity. This will allow clients to design larger and/or heavier topsides and jackets which the vessel can install fully integrated and commissioned.
The vessel has been designed with superior motion behavior compared to other types of vessels in all operating environments worldwide. For the Sleipnir, we took onboard what we knew from our existing vessels' characteristics and looked for even better motion behavior in order to perform lifts of a certain magnitude in higher sea states.
This was combined with a dual-fuel approach to power generation to include LNG, with the Sleipnir to become the first large vessel to use this more environmentally-friendly fuel source.
Duncan works within the Offshore Construction Industry as Project Engineer for Heerema Marine Contractors. Duncan holds a degree in Civil Engineering from Newcastle University and began his career as a Consultant Structural Engineer for the onshore construction industry.
Duncan has developed his main area of expertise in the transport and heavy lift installation of offshore platforms in the North Sea and West African regions, as well as the Removal and Subsea industries. His further roles include UK business development and tender support as well as SSCV Sleipnir Roadshow.
