Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macao Bridge (HZMB), being situated at the waters of Lingdingyang of Pearl River Estuary, is a mega-size sea crossing linking the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Zhuhai City of Guangdong Province and Macao Special Administrative Region. The HZMB Main Bridge runs from the artificial island off Gongbei of Zhuhai to the eastern artificial island for the tunnel section just west of the HKSAR boundary. It includes a 29.6km dual three-lane carriageway in the form of a bridge-cum-tunnel structure comprising a tunnel of about 6 km; two artificial islands for the tunnel landings; and associated works.
ICE HKA G&S is honoured to have Mr Derek Chung, Engineer of Major Works Project Management Office (Special Duties), Highways Department, to present on the Construction Innovation and Challenges of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (Main Bridge Section). Features of the project include the adoption of precast and pre-fabrication technique to minimise the disturbance to the marine environment and to ensure the quality of works during the construction stage. Another highlight is the use of the largest lifting barge in the world to carry out installation of the final connection of immersed tube tunnel. There will be a lot more construction innovation and challenges of this mega project to be shared in the seminar.
