Humber Feeder 9 – A geotechnical solution for energy security, Sheffield

About this event

The Humber Feeder 9 gas pipeline replacement project will provide continued energy security for south of England as the 5km long gas main is replaced within a tunnel beneath the River Humber. On completion the pipeline will supply gas to a third of the UK.

This talk will give an overview of the project as a whole and look more closely at the geotechnical constraints and challenges that have shaped the design and construction, with a particular focus on the recently completed TBM launch pit at Goxhill. This project is an example of how geotechnical engineering solutions are contributing to sustainability in energy and how a design solution is developed to suit specific project requirements and local site conditions.

The talk will be presented by design engineers from the JV and piling subcontractor who are in a position to comment on the collaboration between the various parties on the project.

  • Natalie Bowkett, Senior temporary works engineer, Skanska Civil Engineering & Heather Sales, Senior project engineer, Cementation Skanska.
