Improving your journey – M5 J1-2 Oldbury Viaduct repair, Bromsgrove

About this event

M5 Oldbury Viaduct was constructed in the 1960s and carries up to 150,000 vehicles daily on the Western side of the Midlands through Sandwell over a number of obstacles including canals, railways and local roads. Many elements of the structure have reached the end of their serviceable life and parts of the structure are propped.

Intervention is essential due to other major schemes planned in the area commencing in Autumn 2018. Highways England are funding this major structural refurbishment scheme employing innovative techniques to keep traffic moving and maintain economic growth in the wider West Midlands.

  • Colin Jackson – Highways England, Delivery Manager
  • Peter Condon – Deputy Structures Portfolio Manager, Kier Highways
  • Mike Murphy – Engineering Manager, bmJV
