Infrastructure in a NY minute - NY Metropolitan Local Association, online

About this event

Please note the local start times:

18.00 – 19.00 (EST)
11.00 – 12.00 (UK)

Following a very competitive first-round of the Infrastructure in a New York Minute competition, the Institution of Civil Engineers NY Metropolitan Area Local Association are excited to present our five finalists.

During an online session each finalist will have an Elevator PitchaKucha to present their response to the competition questions: "What single infrastructure project would you start in the five boroughs, and why?"

The Elevator PitchaKucha combines the brevity and simplicity of a traditional Elevator Pitch with the 20sec per slide timed rolling of a PechaKucha, in a 2-minute pitch. After their pitch, there will be up to 4mins of Q/A from the online audience, with audience questions limited to only one sentence each.

Once each candidate has presented their ideas there will be a snap online poll, where the audience will be asked to judge each idea against the following criteria:
  • Specificity to NYC
  • Potential benefit to society
  • Feasibility
  • Inspiration

The top three ideas will be announced during the event, and awarded very exciting prizes ranging from an exciting discount at the ICE online bookstore, some haute couture ICE merchandise, as well as the much-coveted inaugural ICE NY John Oliver Award certificate, and keys to ICE HQ in London. Most importantly, the winner will be invited to frame the question for the next edition of Infrastructure in a NY Minute.

All are invited to join remotely, and please feel free to share the invite to interested parties. We look forward to a stimulating set of presentations, and to seeing you onscreen on Thursday March 11.
