Intelligent Infrastructure – experience on the Western route, Swindon

About this event

In the last five years the UK rail network has seen an expansion of wayside monitoring of infrastructure with over 60,000 assets now monitored nationally through various configurations. This fixed monitoring supplements data collected from an established fleet of specific measurement trains and vehicles.

The presentation explores the lessons learned in managing the business processes associated with rapid expansion of infrastructure monitoring in the western route, using field examples to illustrate success and improvements.

Opportunities for the next five years are then explored, starting with the expansion of data as the western route takes advantage of high volume and high velocity data streams from new train fleets. The impact of data on asset management is examined – how much of the data is an enabler in the ISO 55000 lifecycle and how do we make intelligent use of the information contained within?
