About this event

Dermot Byrne, President of Engineers Ireland, shares his personal perspective on Ireland's energy challenge, based on a lifetime of experience in the electricity industry in Ireland and abroad. Following his retirement from EirGrid in 2012, Dermot has taken up non-executive Directorships at 'Element Power Ireland', a leading Renewable Energy Company, and at 'Intellectual Ventures - Invention Investment Ireland', a global intellectual property investment fund.

Dermot chairs the Board of Vita, a not-for-profit NGO working to improve the livelihoods of households and communities in East Africa, principally in rural Ethiopia and Eritrea. He also chairs an expert group developing an Energy Research Strategy and Implementation Plan for Ireland.

Dermot is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland, a Distinguished Member of the international electricity body CIGRE and has been awarded Chartered Director status by the Institute of Directors in London.
