About this event

The lack of nearby adequate health facilities is a major risk to lives and livelihoods in Ghana and throughout Africa. The Dodowa Hospital is the first of 6 hospital projects, that will bring modern healthcare to communities who otherwise need to make lengthy and hazardous journeys on foot or overcrowded road networks to facilities in the nearest urban centres. The project will save and significantly improve many lives.

The presentation will look at the development from the initial site selection and discuss how modern techniques in data capture, design and construction have been used, adapted and integrated into tried and tested local construction methods. This is a project that made the engineers truly think about the principals of engineering and not just solutions.

The Ghana District Hospitals project is an exemplary illustration of the core values of modern civil engineering and knowledge transfer has been at the heart of the process. We have achieved a sustainable, user friendly layout that economically addresses the site constraints.

This project was chosen as the overall winner of the 2016 S E England Engineering Excellence Awards.

Our speaker is Simon Boots, Partner, CampbellReith.
