Laing O'Rourke is a privately owned, British company at the forefront of new manufacturing techniques for the construction industry. Laing O'Rourke has invested over £100 million in Explore Industrial Park, with the aim of 70 per cent of the projects the company directly controls to be produced through DfMA. This should see a corresponding 60 per cent reduction in onsite labour and a 30 per cent reduction in build times for most projects.
Explore Industrial Park represents a rebirth of Steetley's proud industrial heritage, creating new jobs and developing new skills for the workforce. It its heyday before closure, Steetley Colliery employed more than 500 people from the local area, making its Worksop's single largest employer.
Explore Industrial Park is creating a range of long-term manufacturing jobs and apprenticeships in the area including skilled and semi-skilled operatives, maintenance, design and production engineering, supply chain, team and production leaders and a range of commercial and administrative roles. Explore Industrial Park currently employs approximately 400 people and this number continues to grow.
Greater use of offsite manufacturing will deliver construction projects faster, better and more efficiently. The Government increasingly recognises the role that offsite manufacturing can play in delivering construction projects more efficiently, with the Government Construction Strategy, the Review of Capital Investment in Schools and the Affordable Homes Programme 2015-2018 all highlighting the potential for cost and time savings that can be achieved in public sector projects.
Experience first-hand the opportunities and ambition presented by our proposal to develop an advanced research and manufacturing facility.
