About this event

Jessica Lavender, from Hertfordshire County Council’s Community Protection Resilience Team, will outline the modern day approach to responding to major emergencies in the UK, and draw upon national examples and her own experiences in Hertfordshire to discuss the challenges faced by the resilience sector in responding to the emergencies that we face such as widespread flooding, terrorist attacks and major fires.

Jessica Lavendar

Jessica trained in Emergency Planning & Disaster Management at Coventry University and first started putting her knowledge into practice during a university placement with London Underground’s Emergency Planning team where she assisted in planning for large events such as Notting Hill Carnival as well as putting contingencies in place during industrial action.

Following university Jessica pursued an interest in the third sector working for a homelessness charity before returning to emergency planning where she now works on business continuity and emergency planning projects, trains council staff in incident response arrangements and assists in coordinating the local authority and voluntary agency response when incidents occur in Hertfordshire.
