Presentation 1 – Andrea Mackie, Transport Officer, The City of Edinburgh Council
Andrea’s presentation will cover the approach taken to developing LEZs in Edinburgh, an overview of the proposals, and how LEZs will be integrated into wider transport
Presentation 2 – Gavin Thomson, Friends of the Earth
Gavin’s presentation will cover:
Low Emission Zones, a health and legal necessity in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee. Current status, good practice, things to be wary of. What does the next ten years in transport look like for Scottish cities? Overview of policy, legislation, trends.
Presentation 3 - Dr Colin Gillespie, Principal Air Scientist & Tanith Allinson Scottish Environment Protection Agency
Colin and Tanith’s presentations will cover Low Emission Zones, how they are being modelled and implemented across Scotland and what is SEPA’s role is in the process. Their presentation will also cover National Low Emission Framework and Air Quality action planning.
Presentation 4 –Graeme Sneddon, Communications Officer (Scotland/Research), British Lung Foundation
Graeme’s presentation will be highlighting the impact of air pollution on people with lung conditions, including research funded by the BLF on this subject and how Low Emission Zones can help to reduce hospital admissions and protect people with lung conditions from the harmful effects of air pollution.
Presentation 5 – Fraser Crichton, Corporate Fleet Operations Manager, Dundee City Council
Fraser’s presentation will cover the promotion of electric vehicles, de-carbonising Dundee City Council's fleet and promoting EVs to the general public and the council's role in that.

Transport Officer, The City of Edinburgh Council
Andrea is the lead officer for the development of Edinburgh’s Low Emission Zones. In this role, Andrea is working closely with Transport Scotland and the other local authorities developing LEZs as well as SEPA as the air quality modelling lead. Within the Council the LEZ project is being developed alongside the City Mobility Plan which will replace Edinburgh’s Local Transport Strategy, and Edinburgh City Centre Transformation which is looking at improving community, economic and cultural life in the city centre. Prior to her role in Edinburgh, Andrea was a policy adviser for New Zealand’s Ministry of Transport. In this role, Andrea has been involved in a range of transport sectors including maritime and freight, road safety, and urban development.
Friends of the Earth
Originally from Ayrshire, Gavin was a campaigner in London for many years, working on social justice and public health issues. He was the Healthy Air campaigner at ClientEarth, who have a long-running legal case against the UK Government. With an MSc in Urban Policy, his interests are the links between transport, health, and the urgent need to decarbonise. Principal Air Scientist and Tanith Allinson Scottish Environment Protection Agency
Communications Officer (Scotland/Research), British Lung Foundation
Graeme is the British Lung Foundation’s Communications Officer and his job is to raise awareness of the 1 in 5 Scots living with a lung condition and campaign for a world where everyone can breathe clean air with healthy lungs.
Corporate Fleet Operations Manager, Dundee City Council
Fraser has worked for Dundee City Council since 2001. In 2011 he was appointed Assistant Manager of the newly formed Corporate Fleet Department. He has been at the forefront of implementing electric vehicles and infrastructure in Dundee as well as surrounding local authorities. Pro-active in the council’s drive towards the EV uptake of the city’s taxi industry he has presented at many UK/ European conferences where he has articulated his knowledge and expertise in the racticalities of electric vehicle adoption.
