ECOncrete® was founded by Dr. Shimrit Perkol-Finkel and Dr. Ido Sella, renowned marine biologists with vast international experience in the ecology and biology of artificial habitats within marine and urban environments.
ECOncrete ® technology seeks to provide sustainable solutions for the construction of ecologically active infrastructure by developing innovative concrete products designed to enhance the biological and ecological value of coastal marine and urban infrastructure. ECOncrete’s unique biological traits encourage biogenic build up. They also provide substantial structural and economic advantages in terms of increased stability and longevity, as well as a reduction in maintenance costs.
Products such as ECOncrete® Tide Pools mimic natural rock pools to create local ecosystems that increase biodiversity and biological productivity; vital as natural water retaining elements are absent in most urban waterfronts. The creation of Bio Active Wall Tiles has combined the technology originally developed to increase the ecological value of marine infrastructure into an urban landscape.

Andrew Rella is the Global Director of Engineering for ECOncrete Tech., a company offering innovative concrete ecological solutions for marine infrastructure, with Andrew's work focusing around Coastal and Environmental Engineering.
Previously, Andrew worked as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, where his experience included; being a member of the Coordinating Team of the Hudson River Sustainable Shorelines Project since 2009; consulting on pilot projects for the NJ USACE, NJDEP and American Littoral Society; developing workshops for the Departments of Remediation and Environmental Protection, as well as co-authoring the NJDEP Living Shorelines Engineering Guidelines. Andrew has a PhD in Ocean Engineering from the Center of Maritime Systems at Stevens Institute, and he holds a BE in Environmental Engineering and a ME in Ocean Engineering, with a concentration in Coastal Engineering.
