David will draw on his 7 years experience at Hinkley C, delivering the first new reactor building to be built in the UK in a generation on schedule with 18M man hours and a spend of £6B. Taking into account Client, Principal Contractor and Design obligations, he will illustrate how to set up deliveries and manpower for the scale of works involving 1.4M man hours per month.
David moved to Heathrow earlier this year, preparing to deliver the new runway and all associated infrastructure for a value circa £16B. Although the master plan is still at the consultation stage, he will be in a position to share consistencies and lessons learnt on both programmes.
A lifelong career as a Civil Engineer that started in 1982 as an apprentice aged 16 in a drawing office coming to terms with reinforcement drawings and bending schedules.
Quickly moving into a long period of contracting in both the UK and a 10 year period overseas. Most notable projects were CTRL (HS1) M20 M25, M2 widening, Dover, Tilbury and Sheerness docks, Gatwick, Birmingham and City airports. Al Reem Island, Sheikh Zayed University, Paris Sorbonne University.
Then in 2010 moved into the client side, joining the Athletes Village team at the London 2012 Olympics helping to hand over a fully working and operating village to LOCOG on time for 3500 athletes to take up residence.
Joined the HPC (Hinkley C) project in 2012 and set up the Pre-Construction organisation then became Head of Construction 2 years later and left in 2019 with the project completed.
Now the Off Airport Project Delivery Director for Heathrow expansion.
Became a Fellow of the Institution Civil Engineers in 2017.
