About this event

The presentation will look at the trend in mainline derailments and indicate how initiatives with a systems approach, planning, rail vehicles and track are influencing the trend. Examples will be cited, and the importance of monitoring, review and adherence to standards will be emphasised. The life cycle of preventative measures will also be addressed.


Phillip Campbell has 40 years experience leading teams in the engineering, maintenance and project management domains. He is currently the Acting Executive General Manager Enterprise Services for Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC).

Phillip joined ARTC in July 2007 as Configuration Manager, and has since had a number of engineering, project management and operational roles. In 2011 he project managed the demobilization of the NSW Country Regional Network, as well as the ARTC investigation into Queensland regional rail in 2014. He held the role of General Manager Technical Standards from 2012 to 2016.
