About this event

Dr. Jean Venables, ICE's Past President, will give a presentation on Managing Flood Risk and Public Expectations on 3 February 2016.

Jean will discuss the benefits of catchment management and the need for flood resilience, both in our properties and our infrastructure, as electrical power is increasingly needed for today's lifestyle.

Both capital and maintenance for flood risk management schemes are based on cost benefit calculations.  Jean will discuss how this leads to unintended consequences and the challenges of explaining the outcomes to the public.  In addition, return periods for floods have been calculated using long data sets and, in this time of breaking records, should we be taking a different approach when planning for the future?

This is a free to attend event organised by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and all are welcome.
