Marc Isambard - The other Brunel, webinar

Watch this event

The life and works of Isambard Kingdom Brunel are famous but his father, Marc Isambard Brunel, is not so well-known and deserves to be recognised as a brilliant engineer in his own right.

Join ICE Hereford and Worcester for a historical talk, focusing on the life and works of Sir Marc Isambard Brunel, the father of Isambard Kingdom.

Sir Marc, born in France, was responsible for a wide range of engineering projects, including his development of machinery for the manufacture of ships' pulley blocks and the driving of the first tunnel under the River Thames.

Roger Cragg

Roger Cragg retired from his position as Principal Lecturer at, what is now, Coventry University at the end of 1986.  Between 1977 and 2014 he was the West Midlands Regional Panel Member of the Panel for Historical Engineering Works (PHEW) at the Institution of Civil Engineers.

He was an active volunteer on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway for over 30 years, acting as a guard, signalman, station master and diesel locomotive driver and for several years held the post of Assistant Operating Officer.  For many years he has been giving talks to local schools, clubs and societies and has currently given over 430 talks to a total audience of over 15,000.
